Types of Ladders

Thousands of ladder-related accidents occur each year, many of which could be avoided if the correct ladder had been used.

Understanding the different types of ladders and what they’re used for will help you determine which is the most suitable for the job you want to do.

Here’s a guide to each ladder type and how they’re used;

Step Ladders

Step ladders are widely used for everyday jobs like changing lightbulbs, cleaning windows and reaching high shelves.

They are designed to be self-supporting and are complete with a hinge in the middle to create an A shape, so they don’t need to be leaned against a wall.

Although they’re handy for many tasks, they aren’t suitable for carrying out gardening tasks that require working at height.

Extension Ladders

Unlike step ladders, extension ladders aren’t self-supporting and need to be leaned against a surface before use.

Their design typically includes 2 sections which allow the length of the ladder to be adjusted. These tend to be used for roof or gutter work.

Folding Ladders

As the name suggests, folding ladders can be folded up easily after use, making them easy to store and transport.

Generally used for indoor jobs and DIY tasks, they are very convenient household ladders.

Tripod Ladders

When it comes to gardening jobs like trimming hedges and pruning trees, there’s no safer ladder than the Henchman tripod.

The innovative design includes a triangular base, which ensures you won’t topple when working at height on slopes, steps or ditches.

Initially designed as orchard ladders, the fully adjustable legs mean that you can use it on slopes and uneven terrain without any fear of toppling.

Platform Ladders

Platform ladders are similar to step ladders in terms of the A-frame shape, but have a platform instead of a top step. They are versatile and can also be used for home maintenance or cleaning the roof of caravans and motorhomes.

Platform ladders provide a spacious and comfortable working space, allowing you to work at height for longer periods of time.

Telescopic Platform Ladders

Telescopic platform ladders offer the same stability and comfort as standard platform ladders, but with the added benefit of adjustable height through a telescoping frame. This allows the ladder to be easily extended or retracted to suit a wide range of tasks, making it ideal for both professional and domestic use.

The compact, collapsible design also makes transport and storage much more convenient, especially where space is limited. Like standard platform ladders, telescopic platform ladders provide a secure, large working area, helping you maintain balance and control while working at height.

A unique feature of our All Terrain Telescopic Platform (ATTP) is its independently adjustable legs, designed for use on uneven ground, helping to ensure safe and stable positioning on almost any terrain.
