The history of the stable Henchman tripod ladders
Henchman was founded in 1994 as a family business. Although we are still a small team, our company has grown to become the market leader in ladder safety. Our sturdy aluminium ladders have given gardeners, DIYers and tradespeople safety when working at heights. We have received a lot of positive feedback over the years and love hearing how we have helped our customers with their projects.
The key to our success is that we continually improve our ladders so that each new model is better than the last and offers users the highest level of safety. With the recent launch of our latest range of tripod ladders, we take a look back at the evolution of our products and how we got this far.
What is a tripod ladder?
A tripod ladder is a sturdy aluminium ladder with three legs designed to ensure wobble-free operation. When fully assembled, it forms a wide, secure base with the claw-like feet in constant contact with the ground.
We started manufacturing tripod ladders after launching our mobile platform and Hi-Step ladder to expand our range of garden ladders. Tripod ladders provide stability when working at heights and are usually made from aluminium for high strength and durability. They may look bulky and difficult to handle, but our ladders are extremely lightweight, making them ideal for transport.
Our well-known tripod ladders
Henchman began developing sturdy aluminium ladders after the company founder had an accident using a conventional ladder. We wanted to provide other gardeners with a safe and stable solution for working at heights to avoid accidents.
Our sturdy ladders offer our customers safety through absolute stability when working hands-free. The waist-high safety rail ensures that you always have a safe triple contact when using your aluminium ladder, especially when using larger tools that require both hands. You will feel safe and be able to work comfortably from start to finish.
The advantages of our adjustable aluminium ladders
Henchman is known for its first tripod ladders. These have been on the market for over 10 years and are used by thousands of customers - even the English rugby and New Zealand sailing teams.
They are stable and sturdy and have a safe working load of 150 kg - ideal for balancing the extra weight of garden tools on the aluminum ladder. Unlike conventional ladders, our three-legged, sturdy aluminium ladders are equipped with claw feet that prevent sinking. In combination with our rubber feet, you can also use your aluminium ladder indoors without scratching surfaces.
The development of our 3-rail ladders
Our original ladders have provided our customers with safety and stability for many years, but based on customer feedback, we felt there was room for improvement, so we redesigned our tripod ladders.
In 2023, we launched our new and improved sturdy aluminium ladders, offering even greater safety, versatility and adjustability. With a sturdier frame and adjustments to our guard rail and platform for comfortable and effortless working, the latest model will transform your gardening and DIY work.
Based on feedback from our customers, we've really hit the mark with our new models. With even more adjustment options, they offer even more control on steep terrain or steps.
Improved features
Each leg can be individually adjusted up to 45cm, so you always have a stable platform on uneven surfaces, can reach new heights and work wobble-free. We even have a new 1.5m high aluminium ladder for slightly lower heights.

Our new adjustable aluminium ladders have also improved in terms of stability and durability. The feet are now 15% stronger than our previous model, making them even more stable. The unique platform is particularly spacious and offers more legroom, and the height of the railing has also been increased. These new features ensure greater safety when working hands-free.
